Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to your questions about Resize Image. We're here to help you get the most out of our image optimization tools.

General Questions

Resize Image is a free online suite of tools designed to help you optimize your images. This includes compressing images to reduce file size, resizing images to specific dimensions, converting images between different formats (like JPG, PNG, WebP), and processing multiple images in bulk. All processing is done securely in your browser.

Yes, Resize Image is completely free to use! There are no hidden fees, no subscriptions, no watermarks, and currently no hard limits on the number of images you can process or the file sizes you can upload (though extremely large files might be limited by your browser's capabilities).

No, you do not need to create an account or register to use any of Resize Image's tools. You can start optimizing your images right away.

Image Compression

Our image compressor primarily supports JPG (JPEG), PNG, and WebP formats for both input and output.

The "Quality" slider controls the level of compression. A lower percentage (e.g., 50%) results in a smaller file size but may lead to a noticeable loss in image quality (for JPG/WebP). A higher percentage (e.g., 90%) preserves more quality but the file size will be larger. The default of 75% is often a good balance. For PNGs, which use lossless compression, this setting might influence the compression effort or color palette reduction strategies, but typically PNG quality isn't "lossy" in the same way as JPG.

No, compressing an image only reduces its file size (e.g., from 2MB to 500KB). The pixel dimensions (width and height) will remain the same unless you use the separate "Resize" options.

Image Resizing

In our main "Compress & Resize" tool, after uploading your image, you'll find input fields for "Width (W)" and "Height (H)". Enter your desired pixel dimensions.

"Maintain aspect ratio" ensures that the proportions of your image (the ratio of width to height) are preserved when resizing. If you change the width, the height will adjust automatically to keep the image from looking stretched or squashed, and vice-versa. If you uncheck this, you can set specific width and height values independently, which might distort the image.

Image Conversion

Our Image Converter tool can read many common input formats (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, SVG etc.). You can convert them to JPG, PNG, WebP, static GIF, and BMP. The available output options are listed in the "Target Format" dropdown.

The JPG format does not support transparency. If you convert a PNG with transparent areas to JPG, the transparent areas will typically be filled with a solid color (usually white by default, depending on the browser's canvas implementation).

Bulk Processing

While there's no strict limit set by Resize Image, processing a very large number of images (e.g., hundreds) or very large individual files at once might be constrained by your computer's memory and browser performance, as all processing happens client-side. We recommend testing with smaller batches first if you have many images.

After all images in the bulk queue are processed, you can download them all together in a single .ZIP file by clicking the "Download All as ZIP" button.

Privacy & Security

No, absolutely not. All image processing (compression, resizing, conversion) happens directly within your web browser on your own computer. Your images are never uploaded to, or stored on, Resize Image's servers. This ensures your privacy and security.

Yes. Since all processing is client-side (in your browser), your original images and the processed results do not leave your device. We use standard web technologies and aim to provide a safe and secure user experience. Our website is served over HTTPS for a secure connection.

Troubleshooting

Please try the following steps:
  • Ensure you have a stable internet connection (though processing is client-side, the page itself needs to load).
  • Refresh the page (Ctrl+R or Cmd+R).
  • Try clearing your browser's cache and cookies for our site.
  • Try using a different web browser (we recommend modern versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari).
  • If you are processing a very large file or many files in bulk, it might take some time or strain your browser. Try with a smaller file or batch.
  • If the problem persists, please contact us with details about the issue, including your browser and operating system.

Image compression, especially "lossy" compression used for JPG and WebP, involves discarding some image data to reduce file size. If the quality setting is too low, the visual degradation can become noticeable. Try increasing the "Quality" percentage. Also, ensure your original image is of good quality; compressing a low-quality original will likely result in an even lower-quality output.

Yes! Resize Image is designed to be responsive and should work well on most modern smartphones and tablets through their web browsers. Performance may vary depending on your device's capabilities, especially for bulk processing.
